“It is very difficult to condense almost 36 years into a few short words. We have traveled with MIR-Peace to Medjugorje since August of 1989. Over the years, other family members and friends have joined them as well. For the pilgrims, meeting Jesus and Mary is the desire of MIR-Peace, and so, this is a pilgrimage and not simply a tour. “

“I had first heard about Medjugorje around 1989. I had seen pictures of the visionaries during an apparition and they looked so happy, “That is what I want to look like when I pray,” I thought. A few years later I met Helen Sarcevic who had been taking people to Medjugorje through the group her family started. Helen was speaking at a church in my area and I remember how peaceful she was. “That, that is how I want to feel,” I thought. In 1991 I went to Medjugorje with Helen and MirPeace. Immediately upon entering the village I felt a sense of peace, a feeling of “being home”. During that first pilgrimage I began to feel the real presence of God’s love for me. That love has grown over the years and with each additional pilgrimage I made to that remote little hamlet tucked away from the world. With each additional pilgrimage over the years that love, that sense of peace and of “being home” has grown. I have received the graces from Our Lady that have enabled me to carry on in these days in which we live. I would recommend a pilgrimage to Medjugorje with his particular group because, over time, this family and the pilgrims I have met through these trips have become family for me.
I am most grateful for Medjugorje and for
Mir Peace group whom I go with almost yearly. “

When I was 15 my life was changed forever by my first encounter with the apparitions in Medjugorje. From the first time I read Our Lady’s messages, even before I travelled to this holy place, I felt Our Lady calling me to herself and to her Son. I made my first pilgrimage with a large commercial tour group. Three years later I was given the opportunity to return to Medjugorje, this time with Helen and a small group of Mir Peace pilgrims. From the moment we gathered in the JFK airport chapel, to stepping foot onto the holy ground in Medjugorje, to climbing the mountains and praying together, I knew I was home. Medjugorje was my home, and Helen and the Mir Peace pilgrims were my family. To this day, that feeling of belonging has remained. Helen became ‘Baka’ to me and my family. (Which means ‘Grandma’ in the Croatian Language) Helen and her family have a special understanding that each pilgrim is called by Our Lady. They lead with quiet strength and huge hearts. They are right there to support each pilgrim, while letting God and Our Lady work in each heart. I remember many times seeing Helen quietly hugging a pilgrim in tears, tears of joy or tears of sorrow, silently letting them experience God’s grace while holding them close in love. I have since travelled back to Medjugorje four more times on Mir Peace pilgrimages. My most recent pilgrimage was after Helen passed away. It was led by Helen’s daughter, Darlene, who is faithfully walking the same path her mother did with amazing grace. I am forever grateful to ‘Baka’ and her family for the gift of faith and the gift of knowing I belong to the best family on earth, Our Lady’s family.
